Quinta Property (QP) has been the leading premier luxury property agent in the Algarve since 1998 – the entire southern coast of Portugal that boasts more sunshine hours and beautifully mild climate than any other area of Europe.
This article is part of our Special Report: “Invest in Portugal 2022” which was first published on https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/feb/9/luxury-real-estate-in-portugals-sunny-algarve-coas/ in February 2022 and highlights why Americans are looking further afield for their piece of paradise in the sunny Algarve.
An Algarvean luxury real estate expert
The firm has a team of 25 multilingual professionals and has been led from the start by sisters Kerstin Buechner and Alison Hojbjerg. Alison and Kerstin have been coming to the Algarve with their German mother and American father since the mid-70s and today cannot imagine living anywhere else.
“Since opening, QP have sold Euro 1.35 billion in Algarvean real estate. In 2022 alone we sold over Euro 260 million of property on the coast” said Buechner.
In 2020 and 2021 QP were the exclusive agents for Marriott’s new W Residences Algarve and they have successfully completed all sales of the property which is set to open this spring/summer.

Historically, buyers have been mainly northern Europeans, but people from around the globe are now making up a large and growing proportion of QP’s buyers – not least of all, North American snowbirds, who in the past migrated to Florida but are now also finding their way to the Algarve.
The Golden Visa is a great way for US citizens to be able to spend all the time they want in the Schengen territory within Europe. But even without a Golden Visa, Americans do not need a visa to travel to Portugal.
“They can not only explore this beautiful, safe country and enjoy the endless sunshine, huge number of lovely golf courses and golden sandy beaches and low cost of living, but also use it as a base from which to explore western Europe. Lisbon, Seville, Cordoba and Granada are all just a few hours’ drive away” Buechner explained. Faro and Lisbon airports are incredibly well connected to all major European cities. Flights are relatively inexpensive and many of Europe’s most exciting places are quick and easy to get to.
Buying a property in the Algarve has proven over time to be an excellent investment. This area has been growing in popularity for many, many years.
But even though values have increased significantly, when compared to prices in other comparable areas, like the south of France, prices are still low and still offer great investment opportunities.
